Johannesburg, South Africa – Sun King, the world’s largest off-grid solar energy company, officially announces its expansion to South Africa, a significant milestone as it enters its 10th African market, to bring reliable and affordable solar energy for homes and businesses experiencing regular electrical blackouts.

Addressing South Africa’s Energy Challenges

Since 2007, South Africans have grappled with regular power outages, known as load shedding. In 2023, South Africa experienced unprecedented levels of load shedding. Sun King’s entry into the South African market seeks to bolster the country’s energy security and offers customers an alternative to expensive, polluting generators and an end to enduring energy blackouts.

Sun King has begun electrifying homes and businesses across Gauteng Province, initiating a countrywide campaign to make sustainable, cost-effective, and dependable solar energy accessible to all South Africans. Sun King opened its first store in Thembisa on 27 April 2024. By establishing a network of stores and collaborating with a variety of local retailers and distributors, Sun King seeks to meet the energy needs of a broad spectrum of customers, including middle-income and low-income families, as well as businesses throughout South Africa.

“The business model we’ve rigorously honed across Africa aligns perfectly with South Africa’s specific needs,” T. Patrick Walsh, CEO of Sun King, remarked. “Having uplifted one in five Kenyan homes with our solar solutions, we’re now focused on bringing this transformative success to South Africa. It’s our goal to tackle the critical challenge of load shedding head-on, fostering growth and well-being for every community.”

Innovative Product Range for Diverse Needs

Sun King will offer a wide array of solar solutions tailored to various needs. At one end of the spectrum, the PowerHub systems power high-energy appliances such as laptops, computers, refrigerators, and more, effectively acting as a full stand-in for grid power. On the other end, the more economical Home 500X and 200X systems are designed for lighting and charging smaller electronics, like phones, offering a solution for basic energy needs.

Sun King provides customers with flexible payment and rental choices tailored to their preferences. For the Home 500X and 200X systems, options include a single cash payment for immediate ownership or the convenience of spreading the cost over 18 months or longer with affordable instalments. With “EasyBuy” technology integrated into Home 500X and 200X products, customers can instantly access solar power, obtaining ownership on the spot and paying off the cost through small, easy instalments.

Customers can buy the PowerHub products outright with cash or take advantage of a rental option. This high-power solar solution is available for rent over a minimum period of XXX years, starting at just XXXR per month for a three-year contract. The rental package for the PowerHub range offers an all-encompassing service at no extra cost, including installation, repairs, and continuous maintenance support.
